Meet Jack

Licensed inner north sparky. Call Jack, get Jack.

Pender Electrical is one person. When you ring, you get me. When I quote the job, I am the one who comes back and does it, and I am the one standing in your house at the end of it.

That is the whole reason the price holds and the work is tidy. Nothing gets handed to a subbie who has never spoken to you and has no reason to care how it looks when it is finished.

I am based in Reservoir and work across Darebin and the rest of Melbourne's inner north, mostly on period homes that were never wired for how we live now.

How we work

No surprises on the invoice

$0

To turn up and look

No call-out fee. We come, we look, we tell you what it needs and what it costs.

1

Price, agreed up front

A fixed quote before any work starts. Not an hourly rate, not an estimate that moves once we are on site.

10%

Off for pensioners

Pensioners and seniors, every job. Mention it when you book and we take it off the quote.

No

Is an answer we give

If you do not need the work we will say so. Plenty of what gets quoted as a rewire is really a board and two circuits.

Straight answers

The questions we get asked most

01Do you charge a call-out fee?

No. You do not pay anything just to have us turn up and look. If we quote the job and you decide not to go ahead, that is fine and it costs you nothing.

02How do you price a job?

Fixed price, agreed before any work starts. Not an hourly rate that climbs while you watch, and not an estimate that moves once we are on site. You know the number before we pick up a tool.

03Is there a discount for pensioners and seniors?

Yes, 10% off for pensioners and seniors. Mention it when you ring and it comes off the quote.

04Do I really need a full rewire?

Often not. Plenty of what gets quoted elsewhere as a full rewire is really a switchboard and a couple of circuits. We will tell you straight if you do not need the bigger job, because we would rather keep you as a customer than win one invoice.

05Are you licensed?

Yes. Pender Electrical holds Victorian REC licence 33073. Work is done to AS/NZS 3000, and a Certificate of Electrical Safety is issued for prescribed electrical work as required in Victoria.

06Do you do emergency work?

Yes. Power out, circuits tripping, a burning smell, or a switchboard that is warm to touch. Ring rather than send the form, and we will tell you honestly whether it can wait until morning or whether someone needs to come now.

07Will my switchboard handle an EV charger?

Sometimes, sometimes not. A charger needs a spare way on the board and enough capacity behind it, and plenty of boards around Preston and Reservoir are already full. We check the board first and tell you whether it is a straight install or a switchboard upgrade as well.

08What is involved in getting off gas?

Usually a switchboard with enough capacity, then the circuits for an induction cooktop, hot water and heating. It does not all have to happen at once. Most people do it in stages as appliances fail, and we can plan it so each stage is useful on its own.

09Which suburbs do you cover?

Most of my work is in the City of Darebin, so Reservoir, Preston, Thornbury, Northcote, Fairfield and Bundoora. I also cover Coburg, Coburg North, Fitzroy North, Brunswick, Ivanhoe and Heidelberg. If you are nearby and not on that list, ring anyway and I will tell you on the spot.

★★★★★

My stepmum is a pensioner living alone with dementia and her power kept tripping. Jack came the very next day. I felt completely comfortable trusting them in her home unsupervised.

He took the time to explain what needed to be done and why. Everything left neat and tidy, and he took all the rubbish with him. Fair, reasonable pricing and great value.
